Honey
Honey
On Rosh Hashanah, we dip apples in honey to express our hope for a sweet and fruitful new year. Honey from bees is traditionally used for a few reasons. Honey is used instead of sugar because honey can absorb and preserve what it comes in contact with, symbolizing our hope that our lives for the next year are absorbed and transformed to sweetness. And bees have stingers even though what they produce is sweet, and this reminds us of the balances we must strike in our own lives.
In the Torah, Israel is referred to as the "Land of milk & honey." Most likely, the honey referred to here is actually date honey, made from a paste from over ripe dates, because dates are one of the seven species of plant said to be native to the Land of Israel.
Bees' honey is also a special case when it comes to kashrut, the Jewish laws for what is ok to eat. Bees themselves are not kosher, meaning neither they nor anything they produce should be water. However, because honey is not technically produced from the bees themselves, but rather a transformation of the nectar they collect, honey is considered kosher.

Photos of yarn are carefully corrected for color accuracy, but please keep in mind that different screens can display colors differently. Due to the nature of small batch, hand-dyed yarns, individual skeins may also vary slightly.
For best care, please hand wash all yarns in cool water with a mild detergent or wool wash and air dry. Yarns are carefully dyed to fully set color and rinsed before shipping, but some color bleeding is still normal with the first wash.
Please note that orders shipped outside of the United States may incur additional duties or taxes upon delivery. These charges are the responsibility of the customer.
